Andy Romero is an artist currently studying sculpture as a graduate student at the University of Washington. He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah and at 19 through 21 years of age lived in Micronesia, which greatly inspires his work. Romero earned his BFA degree in ceramics from Brigham Young University-Idaho and participated in a one-year Post Baccalaureate program at the University of Florida where he began exploring the diversity of tropical plants and flowers in his work. Afterward, he worked as a Resident Artist/ Studio Technician at San Diego State University for two years where he continued to be heavily exposed to tropical plants. As a graduate student his ideas have deepened and resulted in the use of a variety of mediums including unfired clay, wax, found objects, metal, glass, wood, digital modeling, water, light and plastics. He has exhibited work in states across the country including Virginia, Florida, Arizona, Colorado, Utah, Idaho, Oregon, Washington and California. He is the recent recipient of a merit award in the 11th International Art Competition based in Salt Lake City, Utah, and was honored to exhibit at the National Student Juried Exhibition during the 2020 NCECA conference. He has also taught community ceramic courses and has years of experience as a studio assistant to established artists including Chris Gustin.
Romero finds great satisfaction and fulfillment while working in the studio, but his greatest pride and joy come from his wife and four children.
